Hike to the mountain hut “Henkelhütte” and enjoy a delitious Kaiserschmarrn
This wonderful hike can be started directly at our campsite. The Slow Trail through the Bleistätter Moor takes you to the restaurant “Gasthof Laggner” in Steindorf.
Cross the railway line and then the path leads uphill to the mountain road in the direction of Golk. Follow this road for about 100m and then turn into the forest (Waterfall Trail No. 41). The steep trail “Wasserfallweg” leads through a forest, across a meadow to an old stable ruin with a few beehives. There you turn right onto the forest path, which leads slightly uphill to a mountain farm.
There is a fountain there and if you are lucky you can refill your water bottle! At the fountain, turn right – again follow a gravel path with a slight incline in an easterly direction to a narrow, paved road. From there, head west on “Gerlitzenhöhenweg No. 4” to the village “Manessen” (to make it easy, just follow the signs to hotel “Pension Karawankenblick”).
From Manessen follow route no. 16 for about 30 minutes to Tschriet. On this section of the trail you will pass a mountain farm and walk past a pasture with highland cattle and a small pond. If you continue to follow the path, you will soon reach the Henkelhütte snack station. Here you can enjoy our regional specialties such as Carinthian Kasnudeln or Kaiserschmarrn and enjoy the view of the “Klagenfurt Basin” with the montain “Ulrichsberg”.
For the way back, I recommend taking the same route or descending into the valley via Tiffen and then taking the public transportation “S-Bahn” back to Steindorf. With the “Erlebnis Card”, which our guests receive free of charge from us, the use of the public transportation with “S-Bahn” is free.
Please make sure to respect nature and the environment and leave nothing behind. Hiking shoes are recommended.
Wear appropriate clothing and take enough water with you.

Ornithological tour through the Bleistätter Moor
The Bleistätter Moor is an important habitat for many rare bird species, including the white stork, little egret, black stork and bittern. There are several observation towers along the Slow Trail at ground level from which birdlife can be observed.
From May to September, Ulrike Knely from the “NaTour ErLeben” association offers very interesting ornithological walks through the “Bleistätter Moor” with its rich numer of species. The walk is organised on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The starting point for the walk is the parking lot at the southern end of the Bleistätter Moor. This parking lot is in walking distance from our campground.
Binoculars are highly recommended, but can also be borrowed from Ulrike Knely.
on hot days…
Cool off at the Finsterbach waterfalls
The Finsterbacher waterfalls at Lake Ossiach are my insider tip on hot days.
The falls consist of three cascades. Each cascade runs over rocks and stones, and ends in deep pools. This beautiful hike leads through dense forest. So you are hiking amost always in shade. There are several lookouts with picnic benches, where you can enjoy the cool humid air and beautiful views.
The starting point of this hike is the tourist information in Sattendorf. You can get there by taking the S-Bahn from Steindorf. The S-Bahn is free for our guests with the Erlebnis Card. From the tourist information you walk to the church and follow the signs to the waterfalls on the path called “Wasserfallweg”.
The hike takes about 2 hours from Sattendorf (without a break). Walking time from Camping Kalkgruber to Steindorf train station takes approx. 25 minutes. The hike is classified as easy to moderate and mostly leads over shady forest paths and steps.
Good footwear is required. More details about this hike can be found HERE.
From our campsite via the Bleistätter Moor and the path “Lobisserweg” to Tiffen
This hike of almost 6km starts at our campsite and crosses the “Bleistätter Moor” to Steindorf. From Steindorf you follow the “Lobisserweg” to the beautiful white parish church of Tiffen. The Lobisserweg is beautiful and offers great views of Lake Ossiach.
In order to make it more convenient for you to follow this path, we have stored this hike as a gpx track on komoot. With the help of the komoot app easy navigation is guaranteed.
In order to start the navigation, the Komoot app must first be downloaded from the app store on your mobile device.

Bicycle tour to Feldkirchen
to one of the loveliest farmer’s markets in Carinthia (the market takes place only on Saturday mornings)
A bike tour to Feldkirchen is a great way to explore the landscape and flair of this Biedermeier town.
The route is about 10 kilometers in each direction and mostly follows paved roads and bike paths.
Arriving in Feldkirchen, it is worth visiting the historic town center and the beautiful farmer’s market on Saturday mornings with all kinds of Alpe Adria cuisine. Enjoy the so called “sweet baked mice”, Italian wine and Slovenian fruit.
On the way back, we recommend to have a stop at the snack bar at the Feldkirchen airfield.
